Colorado Bolts for Pac-10

Add Comment

The landscape of college conferences is about to drastically change, and started with the University of Colorado jumping ship from the Big-12 conference to join the Pac-10.  Rumors have Nebraska potentially going to the Big Ten, and that Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State could also be making their way to the Pac-10.

Pac-10 Commissioner, Larry Scott, told SI.com, "This is the dawning of a new day for the Pac-10."  A dawning, to say the least.  This would be an incredible shift and would make the Pac-10 a super-conference, powerhouse, especially if Texas commits.  The moves, however, leave the universities of Missouri, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State in the dark, so each of those schools would have to find a conference.

Fisher and Lakers Take Game 3

Add Comment

An unlikely Los Angeles Laker took control of Game 3 and led his team to the 91-84 victory.  It wasn't Pau Gasol, Ron Artest or Lamar Odom, but point guard Derek Fisher.  The decisive shot came with 48 seconds left, with the Lakers up by four.  Most would bring it out to take some time off the clock, but Fisher took it to the basket, in a 1 on 4 scenario, layed it high off the glass as he was tackled by three Celtic defenders, made the basket, and his foul shot.  Lakers coach Phil Jackson through SI.com said, "We have this direct-line principle -- no one steps up, you keep going -- and he saw the opening and made a very bold play.  It was one-on-four. It was imperative that it goes in for us to win.''

Tebow: Denver Post PictureTebow: Denver Post Picture

Sports Illustrated columnist, Peter King, writes a column every Monday entitled "Monday Morning Quarterback," and Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow made the #5 item in his "10 Thing I Think I Think" as he wrote,

"5. I think it's almost as absurd to think ill of Tim Tebow for passing on a couple of huge endorsements, which he has done since the draft. Tebow knows his job right now is to prepare to be a football player, and it isn't that taking a day or two out of his prep work or vacation will do significant damage to his career. But if teammates see his mug all over TV this summer and fall pushing two or three products as a big NFL star before he's ever arrived ... not a good idea. It's smart to lay low for now."

No Contract, No Worries For Dumervil

Broncos linebacker, Elvis Dumervil, is playing with fire.  Unlike many that would not come within miles of a facility if they didn't have a contract, Dumervil strapped up his helmet, put on the jersey and shorts and participated in day one of the Organized Team Activities.  The move is almost sure sign of a long-term contract, but this is the NFL, and it is a business, and does have its risks.  If Dumervil, while practicing without a contract, were to get hurt, one could only assume that the price tag on his contract would be substantially lower.

Bust Makes $5.6 Million Per Win

RussellRussellThe business side of professional sports sometimes can be pretty ridiculous, and there is no better example than ex-Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell.  The situation also brings to light the importance and risk that comes with the NFL Draft.  The Oakland Raiders selected Russell with the first pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, which resulted in a six-year contract that would have been worth up to $68 million, with $31.5 million guaranteed.  He, however, was recently cut by the team, and many experts have said that he may be one of the NFL's biggest draft busts.
