  • Belly Flop Championship

    Add Comment

In America everybody has a chance to be a champion. So what if a person wasn't born tall enough to be a basketball player! So what if a person wasn't born with a body strong enough to be a football player! So what if a person doesn't have good eyesight to be good at golf! So what if a person doesn't have the legs for track! So what? In America none of that will stop a person from becoming a champion.

The 14th annual belly flop contest -- Yes, belly flop contest -- was held yesterday. Yes, sir, belly flop. See the video.

I'm proud to post here that an American firefighter won the championship. One of those good American who everyday puts himself out for Americans. So this belly flopping contest is no small achievement. It draws American firefighters, serious men, to the competition.

  • McDowell Is the Winner

What is happening to golf when the big names, (Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els), come up flat and short, and the new guy, (Graeme McDowell), wins? The backroom bookies are at work? No. The TV elves are juicing up the drama to keep things exciting? Nope. So what's the answer?

When the veterans fall part and a rookie steps up to take the roar of the crowd, the veterans are trying to hard, second guessing themselves. Tiger is trying too hard to beat Jack Nicklaus's record. Phil Mickelson is trying too hard to get out of the Tiger's shadow. A win at the Open would have meant that he would have finally stepped up into the light himself. Ernie Els was trying too hard to beat both Tiger and Mickelson, and all three of these very good and veteran golfers finished the day by beating themselves.

  • Lakers Win NBA Championship

AP PhotoAP PhotoThe Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to become world champions.  It was a hard fought battle and was one of the most physical basketball games ever.  The Celtics had the lead for most of the game, but the Lakers fought back and snuck out a nail-biter 83-79.  The Lakers gave the Celtics every opportunity to take the title from them, but the Celtics couldn't close it out.  The Lakers only made 21 shots in the first three quarters, and won with their star, Kobe Bryant, having a horrific shooting night as he went 6-24 from the floor, but still was able to score 23 points.  Bryant and the Lakers got through it, and he got some help from Ron Artest, who scored 20 points, and Pau Gasol who pulled down 18 rebounds.

  • Ubaldbo Jimenez Watch: 13 Wins

    Add Comment

Ubaldo Jimenez Watch continues on, and with today's win he's reached 13 wins with the 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins.  That improves his record to 13-1 and lowers his incredible ERA once again to 1.15.  He struck out four Twins and only walked two in the matchup with fellow countryman, Francisco Liriano, who pitched well after giving up three runs to the Rockies in the first inning.

What a performance, again,'' Rockies manager Jim Tracy said through SI.com. " The mindset of this man and his awareness. This is not the first time that he faced a front-line guy from another ballclub and did exactly what he did today."

There is a lot of fan interest in this championship series. Every game in this series was the highest-rated show for the night on all of television. I shall be watching and rooting for LA.

  • Lakers Rout the Celtics, 89-67

Not so fast  Celtics! The LA Times reports this morning that the Celtics were ready to party. "The Larry O'Brien trophy was in the building, as was Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell, along with boxes and boxes of T-shirts and hats designating the Celtics as the 2010 NBA champions."

But game 6 had to be played first. What a game it was for Lakers fans; for Celtics fans it was a polite smack across the face. Reality, Boston! LA isn't just going to give you the title!

The  Celtics got passed the Lakers, last night, Sunday, 92-86. Kobe Bryant score 38 points, but that wasn't enough. The Boston team is one win away from their 18th NBA championship title. And it's too early for the party to start in Boston, the Lakers have two more games to play. The next game, number 6, is set for Tuesday in LA.

So ‎LA is behind! The nay-sayers are saying this is the first time LA has trailed in a series this post season, that Kobe Bryant gave it everything he's got, did everything he could, threw the kitchen sink at Boston, and Boston just ducked and edged LA, and that's the way the karma's flowing.

Not so fast. Kobe Bryant says, it's time to pull up the boots and do what has to be done. See the video.

I say, Go Kobe. I'm sticking with the Phil Jackson team.

  • Celtics Starters Dominate to Take NBA Finals Series Lead 3-2

    Add Comment

Three of the Big 4 (Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen) had huge games for the Boston Celtics, leading them to the Game 3 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, giving them a 3-2 series advantage as they head back to Los Angeles for Game 6.  Pierce's play was reminiscent to his dominance in the 2008 NBA Finals, as went off for his series high 27 points.  This led them to a 92-86 victory.  The Lakers, however, didn't go down without a fight and sharp shooting from superstar, Kobe Bryant.  He couldn't miss in the third quarter, and end up scoring 38 points, but it wasn't enough, and he didn't really get much help from his teammates.  Forward Kevin Garnett helped out Pierce with 18 points and hauling down 10 rebounds, and Rondo contributed 18 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds.

  • Orton Leads QB Race in Denver

For what it's worth Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels has named quarterback Kyle Orton the starter.  McDaniels, through SI.com, said, "We've got a guy who's going to go into camp as the starter, no question about it and he deserves it.  If somebody comes in there and plays better than he does then that player will play."  The last part of the statement gives him room to make a move, but it'll be hard for Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow to play catch-up to the experience Orton has in McDaniels offense.  Orton reiterated that saying, "I'm really happy with the way I'm playing and just really have more confidence right now than I've ever had," he said.  McDaniels, during mini-camp, was impressed with all his quarterbacks and said, "I

  • Sleeping Pill: 2010 FIFA World Cup

Can anyone prove me wrong?  I'm throwing it out there.  Can anyone, without 'googling' it, name five US soccer players on this year's 2010 World Cup squad and name 5 international players on any of the teams?  I don't think it can be done.

Football dominates the sporting world in the United States, and I realize soccer is a growing sport, but it can't overcome the fact that:  It's just too boring.  The action is limited, and its like watching a high school cross-country meet and then having them kick around a ball.

  • Davis' Scream Propels Celtics to Game 4 Victory

The Los Angeles Lakers and their fans have got to be feeling pretty uneasy today.  The Boston Celtics had a terrible offensive performance and still came out with the 96-89 victory in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, tying the series at 2-2.  Kevin Garnett couldn't hit an open shot to save his life, Ray Allen's shooting struggles continued, and the Lakers didn't even guard Rajon Rondo until he got to the free throw line.  The Celtic bench, however, ignited the team and with their energy and fight turned the game around for the green and white.  Glen Davis and Nate Robinson gave the offensive spark, while Tony Allen played incredible defense on Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

  • Colorado Bolts for Pac-10

The landscape of college conferences is about to drastically change, and started with the University of Colorado jumping ship from the Big-12 conference to join the Pac-10.  Rumors have Nebraska potentially going to the Big Ten, and that Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State could also be making their way to the Pac-10.

Pac-10 Commissioner, Larry Scott, told SI.com, "This is the dawning of a new day for the Pac-10."  A dawning, to say the least.  This would be an incredible shift and would make the Pac-10 a super-conference, powerhouse, especially if Texas commits.  The moves, however, leave the universities of Missouri, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State in the dark, so each of those schools would have to find a conference.

Okay, the Associated Press, June 10, 2010 -- "Glen Davis had 18 points as the Celtics tied the NBA finals at two games apiece with a 96-89 win over the Lakers in Boston Thursday. Kobe Bryant scored 33 points in defeat for Los Angeles." For those who want to listen to Boston's Glen Davis tell the world how good he was last night on the court, see the video.

Looks like this is going to be a long series. Last night was a strange game. The Celtics hero Ray Allen’s wasn't getting the job done. It looked like an easy Lakers win, until the Celtics bench or reserves, Glen Davis and Nate Robinson, stepped up the play in the fourth quarter. This kind of unpredictable suff does keep the game interesting.

  • Fisher and Lakers Take Game 3

An unlikely Los Angeles Laker took control of Game 3 and led his team to the 91-84 victory.  It wasn't Pau Gasol, Ron Artest or Lamar Odom, but point guard Derek Fisher.  The decisive shot came with 48 seconds left, with the Lakers up by four.  Most would bring it out to take some time off the clock, but Fisher took it to the basket, in a 1 on 4 scenario, layed it high off the glass as he was tackled by three Celtic defenders, made the basket, and his foul shot.  Lakers coach Phil Jackson through SI.com said, "We have this direct-line principle -- no one steps up, you keep going -- and he saw the opening and made a very bold play.  It was one-on-four. It was imperative that it goes in for us to win.''

It was a pitching duel of Major League Baseball's best with Ubaldo Jimenez of the Colorado Rockies up against San Francisco Giant Tim Linecum, and Jimenez more than shined.  Here are a bit of his numbers for the day, according to Sports Illustrated:  he pitched nine scoreless innings, struck out nine batters, got win number 10, lowered his MLB best earned-run average to the unheard of 0.78, extended his career-best scoreless innings streak to 26, became the 15th pitcher since 1952 to get win 10 or more game by June 1, and was clocked throwing 99 mph several times while throwing 80 strikes.
