There is one man who is beyond most in Denver when it comes to influence and respect, and when that man speaks, people listen. Of course the man is no other than former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway. He was interviewed this morning by 9NEWS, and as one would imagine, a lot of questions were asked about Denver's first-round pick, former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
Elway was quoted as saying, through The Denver Post, "I think we have a great competitor so that gives us hope. It's gonna take a little bit of time, but I think he'll battle his way in there and hopefully get in the thick of things quick. He's played in big games. You can't teach experience." He then added, "He's got the potential, he won at the college ranks, and won the Heisman, so there is talent there, there's a want there. I think we have a great competitor so that gives us hope."
It is very interesting that Elway used the word "hope" in describing the Broncos, for obviously he's hoping they can make it back to where they once were. These are very kind words for Tebow, and a great endorsement for him. Broncos fans are in need of a successful season, one that leads to the playoffs, and hopefully beyond.
The current quarterback position is interesting in that they have incumbent Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn who they received in a trade from the Cleveland Browns, last year's third-stringer, Tom Brandsetter, and now first-round pick Tim Tebow. Orton, with a year under his belt, has the upper hand, but it will be very interesting to see where the quarterback competition takes the team. Competition is always good, and will hopefully bring out the best in each of them.
One of them will be the starter, and will look to do what Elway did, and lead the Broncos to victory.
