Denver will travel to New England to take on the Patriots this Saturday in a rematch of an earlier game the two teams played this year. All signs point to Denver being an underdog, which has not stopped them before but is cause for concern. The following illustrates just how over-matched they have been this season
.
Mainly on offense, the Broncos are leaps behind New England’s explosive line-up. The Patriots average 428 yards of offense each game to just over 300 from the Broncos. The Broncos get just 152 yards of passing each game, which is less than half that of the Patriots. The only thing Denver does fair better in is the run where they average 164 yards to just 110 by the Patriots. Most disturbing statistically would be the 32 points a game that the Patriots have averaged. This is nearly 2 touchdowns higher then Denver’s 19 points per game.
On Defense the Patriots are known for their struggles this season. However a closer look shows that Denver is not much better off on the year. The Pats give up just 53 more yards a game then the Broncos and give up less yards running then Denver. The secondary of the Patriots is the biggest concern as they give up nearly 300 yards a game passing. The two teams are very close in points given up a game with Denver giving up 24 and the Patriots giving up 21.
Given it all, Tebow magic will be needed in order for the Broncos to escape with a victory.
