It was Phil Mickelson's day today at the Masters. He hit miraculous shots, got himself out of some tough spots, and played like a true champion. He shot a final round -5, 67, which gave him a -16 total, for the win, and the green jacket.
This is Mickelson's third victory at Augusta National, and this one is extra special for the amount of hardship him and his family have had to endure. Mickelson's mother and wife are both going through breast cancer treatment, and he's had to juggle a lot in both his personal and professional life. The embrace with his wife, after making his birdie putt on 18, will go down as one of the most captivating moments in Masters' history.
Mickelson beat fourth place, Tiger Woods, by 5 shots. It wasn't the victory Woods always expects, but was a step in the right direction after a long lay-off. He hit some incredible shots like he always does, but missed on some standard Tiger shots, that would have put him more in the mix if they would have stuck. Second place went to Lee Westwood, third to Anthony Kim, and K.J. Choi shared fourth place with Woods.
Sunday at Augusta was everything it was supposed to be and more. Big names were battling for the green jacket, but Mickelson had more shots in the tank, making him the victor. A great week of golf has come to an end, and was a terrific start to the major championships.
