No Contract, No Worries For Dumervil
Broncos linebacker, Elvis Dumervil, is playing with fire. Unlike many that would not come within miles of a facility if they didn't have a contract, Dumervil strapped up his helmet, put on the jersey and shorts and participated in day one of the Organized Team Activities. The move is almost sure sign of a long-term contract, but this is the NFL, and it is a business, and does have its risks. If Dumervil, while practicing without a contract, were to get hurt, one could only assume that the price tag on his contract would be substantially lower.
Coach Josh McDaniels, through the Broncos said, "We are working with [agent Gary Wichard] right now and [there's] nothing imminent but we're working together on things to try to make sure that he is a Bronco for a long time and he deserves it." "Nothing imminent" are not good words for Dumervil. Obviously he'd like to get the contract done and over with so he could concentrate solely on football. Dumervil seems really optimistic, however, as he spoke to Denver Post reporter Mike Klis, "I know it's a work in progress and I'm sure everything will take care of itself."
It should take care of itself, and quickly, for Dumervil is an incredible leader and playmaker for the Broncos defense.
