The Rockies took a nice step forward towards getting to 500 on the year with an impressive 9-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals. The Rockies were able to hit 3 homeruns on the day and move their record to 40-42 with an even 21-21 record at Coors Field. Game one of the series hopefully has set the tone for the remainder of the series as the Rockies are eyeing up a winning record.
Rockies Pitcher Juan Nicasio, was able to move his record to 3-1 on the year with a solid performance on the mound. In all the offense made it easy for Nicasio by getting 9 runs on 13 hits including the three long balls. Mark Ellis and Charlie Blackmon were each able to get their first homeruns of the year. Troy Tulowitzki also added a homerun, which brings his homer total to 16 on the year.
The Rockies were pitiful, for lack of a better word, on the day. They were shutout and had just 4 hits. Pitcher Danny Duffy got no help from his offense and got his third loss of the year. He has only gotten one victory on the season and struggled early and often. The loss brought the Royals record to 33-49 on the season. Away from home they are a terrible 10-25, and are facing the Rockies at just the right time of the year.
The two teams will meet for game two on July 2nd at 8:10 PM ET at Coors field. Colorado will be sending, the yet to be defeated, Greg Reynolds to the mound. Reynolds is 2-0 on the year and has an earned run average of 4.08. Kansas City will be starting pitcher Kyle Davies who has struggled mightily this season. So far he has just one win to 6 losses and has a whopping 7.46 ERA. Given the match up, Colorado can hopefully look to continue to win and inch closer to the 500 mark.
