The Grizzlies won in overtime, thanks in large part to a late three. The win snapped a recent loss streak that is better left forgotten. The win came after a late surge in the 2nd half by the Grizzlies. They were outscored 49-37 in the first half, but came back by outscoring Denver 54-42 to get the game to OT. The loss hurt even more for Denver due to them dropping to 2.5 games back of the Thunder. Despite Memphis’ 11-10 record, they are also in second place just 2.5 games back as well.
Denver was led by Al Harrington who had a double-double in the contest. Harrington scored 23 points, to lead all scorers, and added 10 rebounds. The Nuggets allowed 31 points in the fourth to let the Grizzlies back into the game and were unable to do any better in the OT period. Andre Miller also added 6 assists, which led the team. The Nuggets are now 14-7 on the season while the loss, in Memphis, brings their away record to 7-4.
The Grizzlies are now 7-3 at home after the victory in Memphis. Rudy Gay and Gasol both scored 20 points to lead the team. Two players also tied in the contest with 13 rebounds, while Mike Conley led the team in assists with 6. The biggest score of the game came in the closing seconds of overtime when Mayo hit a big three that would prove to be the difference. Mayo ended the game with 18 points of his own.
Denver must win these kinds of games. Away games against average opponents cannot end in a loss especially when they led most of the contest.
