Broncos hope to get 2nd win over Raiders

Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver will host a 4:00PM game pitting divisional rivals this Sunday. The 1-2 Raiders will be traveling to Denver to take on the Broncos who are also standing at 1-1 this season. Oakland’s lone win came last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dramatic fashion while Denver too has defeated Pittsburgh in week one of the season. Denver has yet to win since that opening game and has since lost to the likes of the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans.

The Raiders were able to come back last week in Oakland against the Steelers scoring a game tying touchdown late in the game. They then forced a punt from the Steelers and drove right down the field to get a game-winning field goal by Sebastian Janikowski. The comeback seemed to start up right after a scary collision that left Oakland WR Darrius Heyward-Bay motionless in the end zone and ultimately carted off the field. Bay suffered a sprained neck and concussion from the hit. The win also really showcased what Oakland can do when everything is running as it should.

Denver, on the other hand, has had very tough games against the Texans and Falcons, but has stayed very competitive in them and put them in position to win in both games. Both the Falcons and Texans have proved so far to be two of the best team in the league, but Denver showed they were capable of beating both of them. Oakland should be a much easier task for Denver, but divisional games tend to go either way and should provide for a very close and competitive game.

Manning to face another tough team

Peyton Manning will try and lead the Denver Broncos to their second straight victory in another prime-time game this week. This time, Manning and the Broncos will face the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. The game is set to kickoff at 8:30 p.m. in Atlanta. The Broncos are coming off a win against the Steelers last Sunday night while Atlanta got a victory against Kansas City last week.

Manning was stellar in his debut with the Broncos as he helped his team rack up 31 points while throwing for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Manning got a whole lot of help from his defense as well. Defensively Denver gave up just 284 total yards and held Kansas City to under 20 points. It was certainly apparent that Denver was effective on both sides of the ball, which was evidenced further by the fact that they played the Steelers.

The Falcons played very good last Sunday as well though, and should not be taken lightly. Atlanta gained nearly 400 yards of total offense and scored 40 points against the Chiefs. Defense was another story, however, as Atlanta was thrashed by the Chiefs offense. The Falcons defense also gave up nearly 400 yards including 152 yards on the ground. This is certainly not a recipe for success, but the two teams should.

Manning Debuts in Prime-time with Denver

Denver will square off against the Steelers on Sunday night in Denver in a rematch of their epic overtime playoff game from last season. Denver and the Steelers both have a lot of new faces and have both been very much involved in making changes to their organizations this past offseason. Some has been good while some not so good, but these two teams certainly were busy between the playoffs and now as they hope to get back to the big dance come January.

First off Tim Tebow, who beat the Steelers with a huge touchdown pass in OT of their playoff game last year, was let go in Denver and acquired by the New York Jets. This was shortly after Denver made the big move to get Peyton Manning from the Colts. Peyton now takes on a strong playoff team and makes them undoubtedly stronger. All eyes will be watching Manning and this game as it will be televised nationally. This game could easily break some viewing records tommorrow, and i suspect it will. Pittsburgh comes into the game after an offseason that saw a change in offensive philosophy and the loss of several key players. The Steelers switched their offensive coordinator to Todd Haley who comes over from Kansas City. Haley did not come into open arms from Ben Roethlisburger who questioned the move and was quite surprised by it. During that time he also lost time with his number on receiver Mike Wallace who held out all of teh preseason until uust a week ago.

Given all of this, it seems there is no reason Denver should lose. They won with the same team led by Tim Tebow, so certainly Manning should be able to get them the win.

Rockies win seventh straight in NY

The Rockies defeated the Mets in New York City on Wednesday. The team won by the final of 7-2 and have now defeated the Mets 7 straight times at Citi Field. That should not sit well with Mets’ fans who would like to see more victories when the Mets are playing at home. This is especially true because the facility is such a new venue that replaced an old Shea Stadium that was falling down around the baseball team. Neither one of these baseball teams is playoff bound, while both have a lot to discuss in the offseason.

The Rockies got 8 hits all together Wednesday. One of these hits was a homerun by Rosario who belted his 20th long ball of the season. The Rockies fell behind early as they gave up a run in the bottom of the first. They tied things up in the 4th with a run before going off offensively down the stretch. Colorado scored 2 runs in each of the 7th and 9th innings to give the team some insurance runs on way to the win. The team is now 49-73 following the victory.

The Mets fall to 57-67 on the year and have just a 28-33 home record this season. The team is in shambles and needs some serious help this offseason on both sides of the ball. Wednesday they got off to a good start scoring first blood and holding the Rockies offense. They then brought in relievers that served up hit after hit resulting in the loss. Ramirez ended with the loss and is now 2-3.

Rockies Win 9th

The Rockies won a tight matchup against the Brewers on Wednesday. The game was won 7-6 at home thanks to some late game heroics with Colorado down a run in the 9th. They were able to string together some hits and got a game winning hit by Colvin to earn their 44th victory of the season. They are still just a measly 44-71 on the season and improve to just 23-37 at home. Certainly steps need to be taken to get back into winning ways in Colorado. Much must be done in the offseason to make this happen.

Colorado got 11 hits in all on Wednesday including one homerun. Young Jr. hit his 4th of the year. The team flew out of the gates to an early 3-0 lead in the first, and was up 4-0 after 4 innings. Milwaukee then came back and overtook the lead in the 5th when they came out and scored 5 runs. The Brewers were up a run in the bottom of the 9th before Colvin got the game winning hit to walk-off with a win.

The Brewers fought hard to get back into the game with the huge 5th inning, but quickly showed they are just too inconsistent. The team did get 10 hits in the game and got runs across, but pitching was suspect and cost them the game. The loss was credited to pitcher Henderson. Henderson is now 0-2 overall this year. The Brewers, as a team, are 52-64 overall with a 19-38 away record.

Manning Leads Denver into Camp

The Denver Broncos have started camp and had some company recently thanks to one man in particular. If you guessed Tim Tebow, you have been living under a rock all football offseason. The man in the middle of it all is, of course, Peyton Manning who is in beautiful Colorado beginning what Denver fans hope to be a Superbowl winning year. Sportscenter took a very close look at camp while hosting a Sportscenter special surrounding the team and one Peyton Manning Thursday, and this is what they found.

Manning wants nothing more then to walk out in the sunset like Elway did years earlier in Denver. Elway won the Superbowl two straight years before retiring from the game in what is easily the best ending to anyone’s professional career. Manning feels fine and has been practicing for sometime. He fielded questions of the team and even the recent mass shooting in his new hometown’s community, and he did so as only Manning can with grace and dignity. Those are two qualities many would not of had in his recent situation this offseason leaving his beloved Colts.

Manning appeared ready and eager for the upcoming season in his interview. Anyone who has seen him practice feels he looks great and has been very sharp. Many only are concerned how he will react the first time he goes down, but manning is not concerned. As any real NFL fan knows, Manning is a tough QB despite what many may lead you to think. He had not missed a single game in the years leading up to last season, and he is not afraid of missing any this season.  Fans will certainly breathe a little easier after that first hit. Time will tell on all these matters, but one thing is certain. Camp is back in Denver, and the den leader is Peyton Manning.

Rockies out power Phillies in loss

The Rockies played the Phillies in Philadelphia on Wednesday in what would prove to ultimately be a very close ballgame. This was despite the Rockies having a significantly worse record then the Phillies. Both teams are still under .500 on the season, which is surprising for Philly fans that have been spoiled with the team’s recent success in the past few years. In the end, The Phillies were able to pull out a victory of seven to six against the Rockies. This was despite the Rockies putting on a powerful performance from the plate.

The Rockies got nine hits in the contest to produce their six runs. Three of those hits were homers as Cuddyer hit his 11th homerun of the season while Nelson and Rosario also connected on long balls. The team even started off hot scoring five runs in the first four innings of the game. Despite all of this, they still managed to lose the game. Their starting pitching gave up four runs in the first two innings of the game as pitcher Betancourt was credited with the loss. That loss brings his record to just one win and three losses in all this year. The Rockies fall to 25-42 overall this season, and are just 10-21 in road games.

The Phillies scored their seven runs off nine hits, but had just one homer in the contest. Their home run was hit by Martinez, which gave him his first dinger of the season. The team, more impressively, was able to come back in the bottom of the ninth when they were down 6-5. Papelbon got the win for Philadelphia and is now 1-2 this season. The Phillies as a team have been somewhat of a disappointment though, and are just 33-37 on the season.

Rockies Win Big at Home

The Rockies won 11-5 in Colorado on Thursday against the Astros. The game featured a solid pitching performance by Gutherie while the Rockies offense was on fire. Despite giving up a lot of hits, Gutherie was able to get enough put outs to get him in position for the victory. This was further sealed by an explosive day at the plate by the Rockies lineup.

The Rockies are now 21-29 on the season overall while improving their home record to 13-14. The team got 15 hits in all during the game while scoring 9 runs in the first 2 innings. This literally caused the game to be decided early as the Rockies scored as many runs in the first inning as the Astros did all game. Two of the Rockies hits were homeruns hit by Gonzalez and Scutaro. In the end, Gutherie was credited with a win to move his record to an even 3-3 this season.

The Astros are now 22-29 this year and slip to just 6-19 on the road. The Astros had plenty of hits in the game as they collected 14 hits in all. However, they were only able to get 5 runs from those hits as they failed to get runners off the base pads and across home plate. They were able to get one homerun by Martinez, which was his 5th of the season. Norris, who has pitched well this season, was credited with the loss. It was just his second loss of the year compared to 5 victories

Rockies Soar past Astros

The Rockies crushed the Astros 13-5 on Wednesday in Colorado. The game was highlighted by a huge night at the plate from one of Colorado’s power hitters who hit 3 homers in the contest. The team rallied behind that to claim a victory and move their record to 20-29 this season. The Rockies are also 12-14 in home games this season, which is a mark they must improve upon if they have any hope to go any further than the regular season.

The Rockies had 14 hits in all in the game, which produced 13 runs. In comparison, the Astros had one more hit but 8 less runs than the Rockies. The thin Colorado air must have been in effect as the ball was soaring out of Coors Field. The Rockies belted 5 homers in the game including three by Gonzalez who now has 13 on the year. Fowler and Cuddyer each went yard as well. The Rockies pitcher Friedrich was credited with his third victory of the year. He currently has just one loss.

The Astros record is now 22-28 this season and drops to a lousy 6-18 mark on the road. The team got 5 runs on 15 hits in the contest. In the end the 15 hits meant little as the team failed to produce runs and left runners stranded on base. Fowler was credited with the loss for the Astros, which brought his record to 4-4 on the year. The Astros must improve their poor road record if they plan on making any postseason this season as they have been terrible on the road.

Nuggets Earn Sixth Seed

The Nuggets earned the 6th seed after a Thursday stomping of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The final, in Minnesota, was 131-102 as the Nuggets exploded offensively. The Nuggets have been a team that has shown they can put up big numbers and beat quality basketball teams. They will look to take this success in the playoffs and hope to surprise some people. They are a team that does not get much publicity, but would like to make their mark this season. On Thursday they made a statement against the Wolves that showed they are ready to give their all.

McGee led the scoring fest for the Nuggets as he dropped in 19 points. Koufos contributed to the win with 11 rebounds while Miller added 10 assists to help the team reach another win. The Nuggets scored 29 in the first quarters, which they followed up with 30 plus points each quarter after. This included a fourth quarter show of 38 points to put the game to rest with an exclamation mark. The Nuggets end the season with a 38-28 overall mark, and improve their road record to 18-15.

The Timberwolves end the year 26-40 with just 13 wins coming at home compared to their latest 20th home loss. Barea led the team, and game, with 20 points scored. He also led the way in assist with 5 Pekovic grabbed 10 rebounds as well to try and contribute. In the end, their solid offensive performance was not enough as they gave up 131 points to the Nuggets. The team was outscored in every quarter despite having performances of 25 points or more in 3 of the games 4 quarters. They were even outscored in the fourth when they put up 33 points.
